It seems like the weather is mixed a bit in places this year, in parts of ND little snow, and in other parts of the country it is worse.....
Friday, January 20, will be day 4 of canceled school due to an unexpectedly harsh icy, snow storm. Many are without power. Roads are unusable due to dangerous conditions. No doubt those of you in the upper mid-west would scoff at our weather as well as
our wimpy reaction to it. I, for one, am catching up on my task of facilitator and reading the entries of my National Board Cohort while drinking tea and nibbling fresh cookies. Of course, I doubt I will be this content come June when we have to make up
for the lost days, but for now, I am happy.

Diane, You must be in Washington where that big storm swept over several states in your area and left snow and ice, and I don't think any one I know in the mid-west would scoff at that kind of weather or what you are doing ;-) since we have been through it different times and many different ways.
It is just that here especially in Bismarck, ND where the snow has not found us, for one season that we are kind of enjoying the half ways decent weather. Although the past few nights it has dipped down to -32. Tonight not quite a dip but I won't complain and a dusting of snow this morning.
With out power to me would be a lot worse, and have you been out of power for 4 days? And did it just came on so you could have tea and email! That is one thing we have not have happen.. is lost power. But I remember a couple of years ago some Connectioneers had the same problem, big ice storm, no school and no power!
Enjoy your peace while you can! Tea a cookies sound good, but not the studying!
Who else has school closings due to snow or storms? I remember Brian and Jenn as two who went through some similar closings and losing power last year and the year before.
Does this weird weather have anything to do with the earthquake in Japan that shifted the axis?? I still wonder about that and what it might have or be causing.
Our low tonight will be around -6 with possibility of some snow. Will see what the morning brings.
Stay safe!

Schools here in Northern NY were closed Thursday and Friday due to icy conditions and some experienced delays getting back on Tuesday for the same reason.
NNY was closed down for several weeks back in Jan '98 with several storms that struck the NE and Canada back to back during a weeks time. It toppled huge HV power line pylons in Quebec. They had to replace 10,000+ power poles in NY. On one 7 mile stretch of road in our county every power pole snapped. Over 100,000 were without electricity, some for 2-3 weeks. Yet there were few fatalities, and most of those were due to carbon monoxide poisoning from using generators and such indoors. Our little village was lucky to have faired better than most. With our own municipal electric dept we didn't have to rely on Niagara Mohawk (now National Grid) for service. Plus our proximity to the power dam on the St. Lawrence allows to have a direct line to the power source. We were not without power very long. We served as hub for recovery efforts in the area.
But it was a difficult time none the less! My thoughts to those in Washington state and elsewhere who are experiencing these same difficulties now.

We would love to have the snow, but here in Northern Kentucky we are getting ice! Then Sunday night into Monday severe storms which could produce tornadoes! This weather is too extreme.

No a/c here today, B. Only reached a high of 78. *ha* But doors are closed now and I’m “almost ready” to turn on fireplace. These 20-30 degree differences from AM to PM are what Florida is all about. J
B in Florida where it’s about 69 degrees @ 7:10 pm
