Home News News4U Who is Jesus? Zealots?? 1 and Part 2
|
I have to admit reading this book is not easy, as some thoughts that are thrown out can shake what one might believe, or as a friend said to me, I will believe what my parents and my church has taught me. I guess my inquiring mind likes to know a bit more. Please remember I am not saying this is the truth, but M is saying he researched this info for 20 years. Cruxifiction was historically the punishment for a political crime, not religion (sedition incitement of resistance to or insurrection against lawful authority by the Romans.) According to the gospels Pilate turns Jesus over to the mobs for religious dissent but Jewish tradition for this crime was death by stoning. So was it the Romans who executed him for political reasons and not the Jews for religious reasons?? Research according to original Greek text, the two men beside Jesus were not thieves, but were described as lestai which translates to brigands but the official name is Zealots, the freedom fighters from Judea who wanted to rid Judea of its Roman Rule. Romans considered them to be terrorists. They also had a lesser motive as they were concerned about the priests in the Temple who were appointed by Herodian Rulers and not of the bloodline of Aaron. (to be continued)
Reading further, according to what I read, Jesus seemed to be surrounded by Zealots. Were the Romans claiming Jesus was a Zealot since he was placed between two condemmed Zealots?Barabas who was released instead of Jesus was also a Zealot, as well as the name was given to some of Jesus diciples. Simon the Zealot, Luke 6:15. A group with in the Zealots were assassins and I guess rather nasty and were called Sicarii after the curved knife. Judas Iscariot was one. Jesus told his deciples they needed to arm themselves in Luke 22. Could Jesus been sent to his crucifixtion for being a part of this group? Pilate washed his hands but did he really when he still placed the sign King of the Jews at the top of the cross. 37 BC Herod captures Jerusalem, and executes 45 of the Sanhedrin and arrests Antigonus and has him sent to Mark Anothony who had him beheaded. Herod becomes king in his stead ruling with his famous title of Herod the Great. He was a nasty man! He married a royal princess and yet had her brother, the high priest, drowned in a swimming pool at a palace. He then proceeds to kill his wife and his two sons by marriage executed as well. Upon his death the "people" demand a high priest of better purity than the one appointed. To be continued..... |
